Scecina Memorial High School Weekly e-Newsletter April 3, 2020
Remote learning continues through end of school year Greetings,
I appreciate all of your cooperation, commitment, and support of our students and our school during the current COVID-19 pandemic – and always. The State of Indiana announced on Thursday, April 2, that all Indiana K-12 schools will conduct remote e-learning for the remainder of the 2019-20 school year. As you would imagine, this decision has been made from an abundance of caution to help ensure the health and safety of our students and of all people in our communities. As has been the case on a daily basis for several weeks, Scecina is educating and operating with the benefit of archdiocesan, state, and federal guidance while also making decisions that can be
made at Scecina without external consultation. We will continue to follow this approach. While we now have many new priorities to which we must tend, two of the most important are making and communicating new plans for Commencement, Baccalaureate Mass, and Senior Awards Day. Please stay tuned for updates on these and other important topics. We will update you as soon as possible. Because of the importance of these and other events in students’ and families’ lives, we want to develop new plans prayerfully and carefully. In the meantime, thank you so much and please feel free to contact me by e-mail or by calling the school at 317-356-6377 to share any way that we can assist your family through these unique times. Most of all, please stay safe and healthy!Thank you for being an integral member of the Scecina Community. Sincerely,
Joe Therber President
Keeping you updated Scecina has dedicated a special page on the scecina.org website to keep you up to date on school news and initiatives related to COVID-19.
Filing the FAFSA by April 15 is required for any student and family to receive financial assistance to help pay for college during the 2020-21 school year. The state of Indiana has not extended the filing deadline for the FAFSA, even though the income tax filing deadline has been pushed back.
Indiana will allow students and families to make corrections to their filing after April 15, but their initial FAFSA must be completed prior to April 15.
Contact Mr. Orndorff (jorndorff@scecina.org) with questions. Families can also
contact InvestED, a local non-profit that assists with the financial aid process, for assistance at 317-715-9007.
Testing update The state of Indiana has canceled ISTEP+ Grade 10 and ILEARN Biology testing this year.
Students will not be held accountable for missing this testing window. The state will release scores for 11th and 12th grade students who participated in the Spring ISTEP+ Retest window in April. We will release those scores, electronically, when they arrive.
Summer camps Summer will be here before you know it! Looking for summer activities for your children? Scecina offers summer camps through the month of June. Sports, arts, and enrichment, including Bricks 4 Kidz, Safe Sitter, and Archery.

New Vaccination Requirement for 2020-21 School Year The Indiana Department of Health will require students in all grades to have received two doses of the hepatitis A vaccine. The series requires at least six months between doses. Please ensure that your student is compliant with this requirement for the next school year.
